Mahindra Mojo ABS spied testing, to launch in April 2016

After years of testing and development, Mahindra finally launched the Mojo at Rs.1.58 lakh (Ex-Showroom Delhi) earlier this year. The Mahindra Mojo was recently launched after undergoing rigorous tests over the years. Mahindra had also announced that an ABS version of this touring motorcycle would follow and now an ABS equipped Mojo has been spotted testing as per a report by Motor Beam. This feature prepares the Mojo for the proposed safety norms due to be implemented in 2017 which states that ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) and CBS (Combined Braking System) will be compulsory for two-wheelers with an engine capacity of more than 125 cc.

Spy images of the Mahindra Mojo ABS feature the standard Mojo equipped with ABS that is connected to a testing kit. The automaker had claimed that they will be using a dual channel ABS for the Mojo which can be confirmed from the image. The source claims that the ABS unit is sourced the brand Continental while the brakes continue to be sourced from the same Spanish component maker, J. Juan that is a part of Mahindra’s Moto 3 racing team.

This upcoming variant of the Mojo will feature switchable ABS that will allow the user to turn on and turn off the ABS with the help of a toggle button on the switch gear. Other features of the Mojo will remain same as the current version with the bike being powered by a 295 cc, liquid cooled engine that produces 28 PS of peak power and 30 Nm of torque. Transmission duties are taken care of by a 6 speed transmission.

Expect a price hike of Rs. 10,000-20,000 for the ABS version of the Mojo. Once launched, the Mojo will be one of the very few models to feature ABS. Popular models that feature ABS are the Bajaj Pulsar RS200, Honda BCR 250R, TVS Apache RTR 180 and the KTM Duke 390 and we expect the Mojo to join this list as soon as April 2016.

The Bajaj Pulsar 200NS will be back next year with a new heart. Indian Autos Blog reports that the Naked Sport will mark its return with the fuel injected engine from the RS200, apart from a new set of stickers.

Bajaj had restricted supplies of the 200NS in mid-2015 to make way for the RS200 and the AS200. When phased out, the motorcycle was powered by a single-cylinder, four-stroke, 199.5 cc, liquid-cooled, carburettor equipped engine with triple spark-ignition, good for 23.52 PS at 9,500 rpm and 18.3 Nm at 8,000 rpm. The very same engine does duty on the AS200.

When the NS is bought back, it’ll be powered by the fuel injected version of the same engine, which also powers the Pulsar RS200, where its tuned to produce 24.5 PS at 9,750 and 18.6 Nm at 8,000 rpm. The 200NS is already sold in Turkey with a detuned derivative of the updated engine. The NS’s return will complete the Bajaj trio of Adventure Sport, Race Sport and Naked Sport models.

The reports also adds that the new 200NS will sport a new set of dual tone graphics, while the Pulsar badge will be repositioned a tad. The new Bajaj 200NS is expected to be launched in early-2016, but not at the Auto Expo, where Bajaj won’t be participating this time.

Hero MotoCorp has quietly updated the Hunk for 2016. Prices for the 2016 Hero Hunk face-lift start at INR 69,725 for the single disc brake equipped variant and INR 72,825 for the top-end variant with dual disc brakes.

Cosmetic changes to the 2016 Hero Hunk include a choice of new paint-jobs with fresh body graphics, along with a redesigned instrument console. In addition, the tail lamp gets LED power and a white lens, while the exhaust heat shield is new. The 150cc, single cylinder, air cooled engine now produces 15.6 bhp at 8,500 rpm and 13.5 Nm torque at 7,000 rpm, as compared to its predessecor’s 14.2 bhp and 12.8 Nm of torque. It also breathes better, thanks to the inclusion of new viscous air filters.

The new instrument console is dominated by a large, red-faced tachometer with an integrated digital window that reads out speed, time and odometer figures. The console also also gets a chrome trimmed, thick border which also features a new side stand indicator, apart from the tell tale lamps. An analogue, standalone fuel gauge is placed to the left.

Dimensionally, the 2016 Hero Hunk remains unchanged at 2080 mm long, 765 mm wide, 1095 mm high, while sitting on a wheelbase measuring 1325 mm. The refreshed motorcycle tips the scales at 146-147 kg (kerb), while ground clearance is rated at 163mm. Braking hardware at the back has also been updated, with the 2016 Hero Hunk receiving an optional 220 mm rear disc brake. The standard variant continues with a 130mm rear drum brake, along with a 240 mm front disc brake. The 18-inch ally wheels are wrapped with 80/100 tubeless tyres up front and 100 / 90 tubeless tyres at the back.

The 2016 Hero Hunk is offered in 6 new colors, which include Bold Brown, Panther Black, Matte Black, Ebony Grey, Force Silver and Blazing Red. The 2016 Hero Hunk is expected to launch later this month, with stiff competition coming from the likes of Honda CB Unicorn 160, the new Honda CB Hornet 160R, the Suzuki Gixxer and the Yamaha FZ-S.
