In a surprising turn of events, Kawasaki has revealed the KLX110 along with the Versys 650 for the Indian market. The Versys 650 is priced at Rs 6.60 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) while the KLX110 will carry a tag of Rs 2.65 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The Versys 650 will be imported to India via the CKD route from Thailand while the KLX110 will come as CBU from Japan.
KTM Duke/RC motorcycles to be phased out by 2016 end, new models to roll out in 2017 After changing the scene of Indian entry-level performance motorcycling since its launch in 2012, KTM boss has now confirmed the arrival of the new models while the company plans to phase out the existing motorcycles. In an interview to CNBC-TV18, KTM CEO Stefan Pierer confirmed that the existing range of 200/390 Duke and RC200/390 will be replaced by completely new motorcycles based on new engine platforms. The new platform will be jointly developed by KTM and its partner and majority share holder Bajaj Auto. Pierer said in the interview, “The naked bike family, we call it Duke, from 125 cc for the European markets up to 200, 250, 390 cc, we are going to launch the second generation. It is a totally new bike based on improved engine platform which anyway Euro IV is showing up in Europe in 2017 and even the Indian regulations also very similar. Then design-wise and other components you will see a new generation naked bike.”
According to a new report released by Indian automotive magazine Evo India, Honda will launch its new 2016 Africa Twin, officially known as CRF1000L, for the Indian market at the 2016 Auto Expo. Revealed in July 2015, the Africa Twin is an adventure tourer motorcycle that is claimed to have been equipped with a potent engine and dynamic chassis ready to cover continents on or off-road.
Harley Davidson India recently unveiled the 2016 line-up of motorcycles with upgrades for most of the products on sale under a new theme known as Dark Custom. However, what one didn’t notice that Harley Davidson also withdrew two of its models from the Indian market namely the SuperLow and the FatBoy Special. Priced around Rs.6 lakh and Rs.15.5 lakh (Ex-Showroom) respectively, the SuperLow and FatBoy Special were withdrawn from the Indian market reportedly due to the low sales cost. Even though both the models were available in India for an estimated 3 years, they still didn’t manage to gain popularity. They were brought to the Indian shores through the CKD route.
A new report claims that the India-spec KTM RC390 will not come equipped with the new aluminium exhaust as the current system complies with the Indian emission norms. The RC390, along with the RC200 and the Duke duo will soon be phased out and replaced by new range of motorcycles in 2017. Moreover, the new exhaust would have added to the production cost which would have affected the final prices and thus the top honchos at KTM and Bajaj have reportedly decided to skip this aluminium exhaust and continue with the underbelly unit for the Indian market.
Certain Suzuki dealers across the country are giving the Gixxer 155 owners an option to modify their motorcycle into the fully faired Gixxer SF. A new report suggests that while some of the showrooms aren’t encouraging customers for this upgrade, certain dealers are not denying the mod job on owners request. The report also states that once the required spares are available, the mod-job could take up to 2 days to complete. For the Gixxer 155 models painted in Metallic Triton Blue, Peal Mirage White or Glass Sparkle Black the total mod-job could cost about Rs 10,000-13,000 as the Gixxer SF is already available in those color option. In case the Gixxer 155 is painted is a different paint job than the aforementioned three, the modification cost would escalate by approximately another Rs 2000, bringing the total expense to Rs 15,000. The full fairing will be installed using mounts on the fuel tank and the chassis and dealers claim that the final motorcycle will look identical to the stock Gixxer SF.
