WENGER MORE OR LESS CONFIRMS NEW MONREAL DEAL

At his press conference today, the Arsenal manager more or less confirmed it but said the deal wasn’t fully complete just yet.

Asked about the reports, he said, “We’ll announce that at some stage, when it’s finished. It’s not over the line completely but we’re not far.”

WENGER ‘POSITIVE’ ELNENY DEAL IS CLOSE

Arsene Wenger says he’s optimistic a deal for Mohamed Elneny will be completed this week but admits he’s cautious until all the i’s have been dotted and the t’s crossed.

Arsenal are understood to have agreed terms with both the player and his club, FC Basle, and are now finalising the Egyptian’s work permit; a process that is taking slightly longer than expected.

Speaking on Monday morning about the situation, Wenger told press: “I expect movement [this week], yes. I think this week it can happen, we are positive.
“The situation should be sorted out. There’s a lot of work permit problems and special paperwork to do and the visa. We hope to finalise it this week.”

He added: “As long as it’s not definitely signed you have to be cautious, but I’m optimistic.”
The slight delay means Elneny will not play any part of Arsenal’s game with Liverpool at Anfield on Wednesday and with each passing hour it seems increasingly unlikely he’ll make the squad for Stoke on Sunday.

WENGER: ROSICKY BACK IN FULL TRAINING

Speaking on Monday morning, Wenger told press: “We should have Ozil and Flamini available. We have to test Ospina [groin], Rosicky is back in full training.”

“[For] Sanchez, the Liverpool game will come to soon, he should be okay for Stoke, he’s developing very well.

“We try to be cautious, but with a muscular injury you never know. He’s very close. If you look at him training, he’s very, very close.”

Arsenal have confirmed that Gedion Zelalem will spend the rest of the season with Rangers after extending his loan spell at Ibrox.

The 18-year-old has enjoyed his spell in the Scottish Championship since moving north of the border in the summer, featuring 12 times for Mark Warburton’s table-topping promotion hopefuls.

News of Zelalem’s extension comes in stark contrast to rumours that Serge Gnabry and Isaac Hayden could call time on their current loan deals with West Brom and Hull respectively because they aren’t seeing enough first team action.

Arsenal’s quest for an unprecedented third FA Cup success in a row will continue with a home tie against Burnley.

The Gunners have twice played Burnley in the competition during the Arsenal era, winning 2-0 away at Turf Moor in 2008 and 3-0 at home the season after.

Games will take place across the weekend of Friday 29 January to Monday 1 February 2016.
