There are movies that come and go in Bollywood every Friday. Those of which stay are either known for either their songs, story or most importantly their lead pair. Something similar happened when the fresh new pairing of Shahrukh Khan and Kajol came onscreen in 'Baazigar' to take our hearts away forever. They went on to give some huge hits in the name of 'Karan Arjun', 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge', 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai', 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham' and 'My Name Is Khan'. But, as soon as the makers of 'Dilwale' announced the comeback of this spectacular pair in the silver screens, expectations raised sky high. But, not always does a movie that promises a lot, delivers that much. Same is the case with Dilwale, which is not entirely disappointing, but we sure had high expectations.

The story of the film revolves around the lives of two brothers Raj (Shahrukh Khan) and Veer (Varun Dhawan), who runs a garage in Goa. While Veer and the love of his life, Ishita (Kriti Sanon) wants to get married, it is Ishita's elder sister Meera (Kajol) who is absolutely against the marriage. Meera shares a bitter past with Raj in Bulgaria fifteen years back. What is the past and why does Meera hate Raj so much? Watch the movie to know...

Mere five minutes into the film and you know you have stepped in the wrong theatre. The love between Shah Rukh and Varun shown is just too sugary to handle and we know matching up with SRK can be difficult, but does that mean you have to over-react so much Varun? Anyways, it is only after Kajol’s refreshing entry in the movie that we develop a little hope. The romantic sequence between SRK and Kajol is finely captured and will surely make you nostalgic. If Rohit Shetty would have made the whole film revolving around their romance, we would have liked it much better. But the romance ends soon after and masala takes over. The Rohit Shetty style of car crashes and action comes up, which are shot well but are again below average as compared to previous Rohit movies. The comedy sequences are quite hilarious and do manage to tickle you, especially the ones involving Johnny Lever and Sanjay Mishra.

Shah Rukh Khan is capable of portraying any given part well and same goes the case with this. The actor is promising in his role and wonderful in action scenes. Also the emotional scene with Varun Dhawan is top-notch. Kajol is looking exceptionally beautiful and plays her part with confidence. Varun Dhawan overplays a few times, but is otherwise fun to watch. Kriti Sanon is pretty and throws a fine performance. Johnny Lever, Sanjay Mishra and Mukesh Tiwari are hilarious. Boman Irani too is amazing in his part and gives good support to the film.

The abrupt flashbacks and the weird editing, makes the movie score less marks in the technical department. Also the screenplay, which is quite predictable, is unnecessarily stretched.

On a whole, 'Dilwale' is just another masala entertainer, which only expects you to enjoy and not think much. Giving it a shot wouldn’t harm anyone.

Known for his extravagant car stunts and commercial cinema template, director Rohit Shetty is back with Shahrukh Khan for Dilwale, which also boasts of the likes of Kajol, Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon. The film's casting is its biggest plus and the pairing of SRK and Kajol is sure to draw in audiences in large numbers. But the film's masala mix is bland and something that we have experienced in many movies before, particularly in the South. At more than 2 hrs 30 mins, you would be forced to check out the time quite often over the course of the film.

We have a pair of brothers and a pair of sisters, and love sparks between the elder set and the younger set in varying timelines, separated by 15 years. There are conflicts, gang rivalries, misunderstandings, all the attempts to patch-up and the final resolution in the best interests of all. The idea of a silent, straightforward man having a tainted history is straight out of a Rajinikanth film (remember the landmark Baasha?) but the part involving Kajol in the first half in Bulgaria was a pleasant surprise and a sit-up moment for the audience.

Swanky cars and the related stunts, maneuvers hold pride of place and the film's production quality, budget and grandeur are evident whenever these mean machines are on screen. One expected nothing less from a Rohit Shetty film. The locations are exotic (particularly in the dreamy 'Gerua' number) and there is something to take home on the visual front, after seeing Dilwale on the big screen.

Varun Dhawan is earnest as always and shines in the emotional scenes with SRK. Kajol has lost a bit of her infectious charm and chirpiness, or maybe she has toned it down due to the nature of her role. But she still has the looks and the curves. The tall and leggy Kriti Sanon doesn't have much to offer and is just a pretty presence.

SRK has a few shades in his role and it is an easy outing for the 'Baadshah' of Bollywood. One wishes that he selects interesting themes to present to his massive audience base after reaching such a level of superstardom. Despite such a star cast and limitless production resources, Dilwale is a test of patience more often than not due to the stale nature of its plot. After Chennai Express, Happy New Year and now Dilwale, one really wishes that SRK puts on his thinking hat and comes up with something new in his upcoming films at least.

Sanjay Mishra, Johnny Lever, Rahul Sharma and Boman Irani bolster the comedy department but sadly the laughs aren't organic. The part involving 'Ram Lal' and 'Pogo' is one of the few instances when you would feel like smiling.

The background score by Amar Mohile is another factor in adding to our tedium as the same orchestrated theme from the song 'Janam Janam' is used almost throughout the film. That said, almost all the songs by Pritam have turned out well. The silken-voiced Arijit Singh is behind the mike for most of the songs.

Dilwale has its share of decorative elements which may look enticing from the outside, but the viewing experience is a disappointment. We have to see how the film holds up after the opening weekend which is bound to be extraordinary.
Verdict: Another disappointing, over-the-top commercial venture from Shahrukh Khan

    DILWALE

    --

    Tinku Singh, SRS Cinemas

The first two shows of Dilwale in all
    our properties saw occupancy of
around 85 per cent. Everyone is a
Shah Rukh Khan fan and this was
    evident during the morning shows.
The third show is running almost
house full. So over the weekend, we
expect an exceptional response t this film, which will set some huge records at the box office. The next three days will be jam-packed at our properties.

    Arijit Dutta, Priya Cinemas

Dilwale took a fabulous opening during the morning shows, clocking 90-per cent occupancy, and going up to 95 per cent right now. All the four shows from now on will be house full. We might have to increase the number of screens since demand from the audience is high. The film is getting an outstanding response from the audience. The overwhelming response to advance booking suggests that we will sell out our weekend shows
today. This film will go down in the
    history of our industry.

    Satish Kondvilkar, INOX

Dilwale has taken a gigantic opening at all our properties. The morning shows started with 70-per cent occupancy and we are now running shows with 95-per cent occupancy. Audiences are thoroughly enjoying every bit of the movie. Advance booking for the weekend is almost
    complete, which means Dilwale will
run house full at the weekend. On
average, we are running 18 shows per day, per property.

    Amar Laykar, PVR

Dilwale is running to almost packed
shows and occupancy is around 85
per cent for every show. On average,
we are running five shows per
property. The film will surely see a
packed weekend as advance booking has sold out almost all the tickets till Sunday evening.

    Avinash Singh, APR

Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol working
    together again, Rohit Shetty as
    director, Varun Dhawan an
entertainer… In short, the film has all the elements needed to draw
audiences to cinemas. The film took a great opening and, in fact, the morning shows saw 90-per cent occupancy.Shows have been running house full since noon. The weekend will be
    outstanding, with Dilwale breaking
records. We are running six shows of Dilwale.
