    New Bollywood movie filmed in Augusta

    AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- A new Bollywood movie is being filmed in the Augusta area.

    The movie is called Detroit Crossing. Originally the crew did not have any plans to even film in Augusta.

    Line producer, Priya Chokshi, says they were planning on filming in Atlanta.

    In fact, they already had contacted a few places there to set up dates to shoot. Until our city stole the show, literally.

    She says they only came to Augusta to look at some props to rent, but after riding around and checking out the city the plans for Detroit Crossing changed in a matter of a couple hours.

    Chokshi says, "We got in the car for the drive back and we were both quiet for awhile and we were like, 'Are you thinking what I am thinking? Are we thinking about the same thing, really strongly thinking about moving the whole thing to Augusta?'"

    That's exactly what they did. They started filming a few weeks ago, but they still have months to go.

    They will be shooting all around town. From the brick yard, neighborhoods and around downtown. The extra actors and actresses are not the only ones that are local.


    Director, Nirmal Saha Dev, is no stranger to the CSRA. He actually used to live in Aiken for a little bit and worked at the Savannah River Site.

    He was studying film while working when he decided to follow his dream.

    That's when he left and kicked off his career filming in Atlanta, India, and New Orleans. He was even was part of a production that is on Netflix

    When he left his job at SRS he says he never thought he'd be back here working and filming. "If you connect the dots it would probably never register that I'd be back here. It's big though, because when we do it right and do it right in Augusta, we are opening the door for a lot more productions coming down here," he says.
