Rajini, Shankar, Vijay...some of the big names that depend on the timely duties performed by this person on set. A production controller by profession, his current project is the highly anticipated Vijay 60. Here he shares with us the nature of his job, on set experience with the stars and most importantly, interesting details about the upcoming Vijay starrer.

Tell us about the responsibilities you carry as the production controller of a set.

A production controller is next only to the producer in the set.

A production controller is next only to the producer in the set. Be it scouting for locations, arranging for transportation and accommodation, food and costumes or security arrangements, everything is entirely my responsibility. The director will discuss the script with me, artists will tell me their requirements and I, working with four of my assistants, make sure the needs of the set are fulfilled.


How did you choose to become a production controller? What are the movies you have worked in?

I joined Shankar sir for Gentleman in 1993.

My father was a production controller. After finishing my studies, circumstantially I had to enter the industry as a production controller too. I joined in the late 80s and worked with actor and director Bhagyaraj for his movies, Avasara Police 100, Pavunnu Pavunuthan and Sundara Kandam. After that I joined Shankar sir for Gentleman in 1993. From 93 to 2010 I worked with him, my last film with him being Enthiran. After that I’ve been a part of Vijay sir’s movies Puli, Theri and now Vijay 60.


Tell us about the progress of Vijay 60

Vijay 60 will be an action cum romance flick.

The movie has been going according to plan. It will be an action cum romance flick. The first schedule has been completed with most of the shooting done in Binny mills, Chennai. The team has shifted to Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad for the second schedule. The team is keen on completing the shooting process by December and has planned the movie’s release for Pongal next year.


Since you’ve observed them together on set, how is the chemistry working out between Vijay and Keerthy Suresh?

Keerthy Suresh seems very confident working alongside Vijay.

The pair looks good together. Two songs have been completed as of now. First song will be a hero introduction song, while the second one will feature the hero singing about the heroine in a wedding function. Keerthy Suresh seems very confident working alongside Vijay.


How do you scout for locations? Local locations aside, finding new places abroad to shoot should be a difficult task, is it not?
We take the help of travel agencies. They provide us with wide variety of locations. After that we finalise on a suitable location, get permissions, and make necessary arrangements.

Is there going to be shooting abroad for Vijay 60?

One song is planned to be shot abroad.

Yes, one song is planned to be shot abroad. We haven’t yet finalized on the location. But we have Switzerland on our mind. Instead of snowy white mountains and fields, we have planned to look for the greener parts of Switzerland.


The presence of Vijay is sure to attract crowd. How do you control the throng of fans in the set?

Even in Kerala, Vijay’s fan base is huge.

Oh yes. We carefully choose locations so as to avoid the throng of fans. We choose locations outside Tamil Nadu in states such as Andhra. Even in Kerala, Vijay’s fan base is huge, so Andhra becomes a better option. Necessary security arrangements will be made to control the throng of fans. But be it Superstar or Vijay, they take of a few minutes to greet the fans.

What a glorious start to Vijay’s next film as it began its schedule in Hyderabad today. Two of the finest Actors Ilayathalapathy Vijay and Jagapathi Babu face each other on camera; “Jagapathi Babu expressed great excitement after facing the camera with Ilayathalapathy Vijay that began its schedule for their untitled Tamil film”.
For Jagapathi Babu, it is an emotional occasion as it kindles the beautiful times of yore when Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s father S A Chandrasekhar and JB’s father veteran producer-director V. B. Rajendra Prasad teamed together to make delightful south Indian films.
“It is such a moving moment for me, as history is being repeated in this era in this way. I am so excited to be part of this project and acting with Vijay is such a delight, he is so humble. He is a dedicated and very intense actor, and I am hopeful my chemistry with him on screen will be loved and refreshing for the audience when they watch this film.”
The movie is directed by Bharathan under producer Venkatram Reddy, son of B. Nagi Reddy of famous Vijaya Vauhini Studios. Interestingly, JB’s father V.B Rajendra Reddy is a close friend of B. Nagi Reddy.
“There is a strong bond that continues to live between me and shri. Venkatram Garu says JB, as it rewinds heart warming memories of the past. This is a fantastic film and I am thrilled to be part of it and if dad is watching me he will be equally elated”.
JB made his mark in Tamil films acting in some of the most prestigious movie projects including Thandavam and Rajinikanth's Lingaa. His recent movies in Telugu Nannaku Prematho and Srimanthudu did extremely well at the box office. JB will be seen along with Malayalam Super Star Mohanlal in Pulimurugan and in a Tamil film with Vishal. He had earlier worked with Kitcha Sudeep in Kannada film titled Bachchan and presently working in two other Kannada films. He is experiencing a very busy period working in multiple south Indian films and making his presence felt in all four languages of Southern States of India.
