The English top flight was not the only league drawing to a close across Europe at the weekend and Papy Djilobodji (pictured) was the player making big headlines in Germany.

His season ended on a high when he scored the late winner for his loan club Werder Bremen in what was effectively a play-off to get out of relegation danger in the Bundesliga.

A home game against Eintracht Frankfurt was goalless until the 88th minute when the centre-back poked the ball home to ensure it is Frankfurt rather than Bremen who go into a full relegation play-off. Djilobodji’s loan club finish 13th in the 18-team Bundesliga.

In Serie A, Mohamed Salah opened the scoring for Roma in a 3-1 away win against AC Milan. They finish third behind Juventus and Napoli. Juan Cuadrado was an unused sub for Juve this weekend, as was Nathaniel Chalobah for the Neapolitans.

Nathan Ake was left-back for Watford as they completed Quique Sanchez Flores’s time in charge with a 2-2 draw at home to Sunderland. Jordan Houghton missed Plymouth’s successful League Two play-off semi-final against Portsmouth due to injury.

The Swedish and Turkish leagues are ongoing and Jamal Blackman kept a clean sheet on Saturday for Ostersunds in a 2-0 win against Gothenburg.

Kenneth Omeruo enjoyed a good Sunday in Turkey with Kasimpasa who beat bottom club Mersin İdmanyurdu 7-0, having lost 2-0 to Konyaspor the previous Monday.
