UPDATE, 11:17 AM: Following up on earlier reports including one from Deadline this morning,Warner Bros has confirmed thatChristopher Nolan’s next film is indeed the WWII Dunkirk evacuation project. It’s calledDunkirk, and Mark Rylance, Kenneth Branagh and Tom Hardy will be part of an ensemble made up largely of unknowns. Pic will be shot on IMAX 65mm and 65mm large-format film. Everything else is as our International Editor Nancy Tartaglione reported it earlier this morning.

PREVIOUS, 10:04 AM: The subject matter of Christopher Nolan’s next project has been shrouded in mystery, but light may have begun seeping in with revelations reported by French regional paper La Voix Du Nord. After the mayor of Dunkirk, France, Patrice Vergriete, earlier this month announced the arrival of an “American superproduction and a world-renown director” this spring, the paper says it has uncovered the identity of the helmer and the subject of the movie. According to the outlet’s information, it’s Nolan who is prepping a film about the World War II evacuation of Dunkirk which took place from May-June 1940.

This would be Nolan’s first directing foray into the war genre. He has stayed silent on details of his next film, which Warner Bros already has dated for July 21, 2017. Warner was mum again today when contacted.

According to the local report, Nolan has visited Dunkirk to scout locations with his brother Jonathan. The shoot would take place from May 23-July 1. DubbedOperation Dynamo, the evacuation of Dunkirk was a British military operation that saved some 330,000 Allied soldiers trapped in the harbor and surrounded by the German army. Winston Churchill described it as “a miracle of deliverance.” In cinematic reference, it’s the setting of Joe Wright’s long tracking shot of James McAvoy on the beach in 2007 Oscar winner Atonement.

A production services company called Peninsula Film Seashore, which has ties to Monaco-based Jake Productions, has reportedly already seen about setting aside rooms in local establishments, hoteliers told the paper. Jake founder John Bernard was a line producer on Nolan’s Inception. Attempts to reach him have so far proved unsuccessful.

There is a 1958 film titled Dunkirk which is also based on the Dunkirk evacuation.Athini kandupidikkanam

Who saw this coming? Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk movie could see Harry Styles in its cast...
It’s been some time since, following an ill-advised Tweet, we wrote in any great depth about One Direction on this site (all 3000 words, some of you may recall). But might that be about to change? News is breaking this evening that Christopher Nolan might just be about to cast Harry Styles, hairy singer in the on-hold boyband, in a role in his new film.

Nolan is set to shoot his thus-far unnamed Dunkirk movie later this year, for release in 2017. And according to Deadline, Harry Styles has been offered a role in the film.

The report says Styles hasn’t been offered a leading role in the movie – the rest of the cast thus far does include Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance and Kenneth Branagh – but that he’ll be part of the main ensemble. Nolan is looking for mainly unknown actors for those roles.

It’s unclear as of yet if Styles has accepted the offer, and given the level of secrecy surrounding Christopher Nolan movies, we may not find out in any great hurry. But it certainly seems as though Styles has auditioned for Nolan and producer Emma Thomas.

Dunkirk (named to be confirmed!) is set for release on July 21st 2017. More as we hear it, of course…

One Direction's Harry Styles is indeed in the cast for Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk movie...
Warner Bros has issued a start of production press release about one of the most eagerly awaited movies on next year. It’s the new film from Christopher Nolan, his first since Interstellar. And it’s his telling of the story of the Dunkirk evacuation

Now officially going by the nameDunkirk, the official release also confirms the cast of the film. On board are Tom Hardy (reuniting with Nolan after The Dark Knight Rises), Mark Rylance, Kenneth Branagh, Cillian Murphy (again, back with Nolan after their Batman work), Fionn Whitehead, Aneurin Barnard, James D’Arcy, Jack Lowden, Barry Keoghan and Tom Glynn-Carney.

Oh, and former One Direction star Harry Styles has also been confirmed.

Nolan will shoot the film on IMAX and 65mm film, with production spanning France, Holland, the UK and Los Angeles.
