DZ had a good first weekend grossing 32.50 crore nett with good growth over the weekend. The film has fared very well in Mumbai, Nizam / Andhra, Mysore, Tamil Nadu / Kerala and West Bengal. It is the multiplexes in these circuits which have done very well. The multiplexes of Delhi NCR and East Punjab under performed compared to the above markets. The film was a success on day one with the sort of initial it took and the weekend has put it in a better position but this is mainly to do with the presence of Shahrukh Khan whose has given the film face value which is far above the content of the film. The collections for the first weekend are as follows.






Friday - 8,75,00,000

Saturday - 11,25,00,000

Sunday - 12,50,00,000



TOTAL - 32,50,00,000



The content will decide what happens to the film on Monday and after. The appreciation will be limited but if this limited target audience comes over the next 10-15 days then a good final total will be possible. These type of films have a cap in business as its a limited audience so even though the weekend is much higher than similar films like Pink and Kapoor& sons, the lifetime will probably find it hard to go above the range as there is only that many people who will take to this sort of film

 

DZ has taken eighth highest Worldwide opening of the year with its gross business going to 70 crore. It is the the biggest Worldwide opening of Alia Bhatt which is surprising as she has many hits and you would not expect a film like Dear Zindagi to top all. But this is the Shahrukh Khan factor even with a extended guest role. The heroes she has worked with before are the younger ones so despite hits, the grossers have not come. Not that Dear Zindagi is a grosser but for its genre its a strong Worldwide number. The Overseas business clocked an impressive $3.5 million going near $4 million if we count the early release in US / Canada. Gulf and US / Canada were excellent while UK did not perform despite the presence of Shahrukh Khan. The top worldwide grossers for the opening weekend in 2016 are as follows.

Overall Dear Zindagi has a good weekend across the World and remains to be seen where it goes in the long run as on weekdays the Shahrukh Khan factor will start to drop out of the equation .

decent Monday with a fair hold at around 4.25 crore nett. The film covered a lot of ground over the weekend and the film had to come down to the level of the content of the film and that is what happened on Monday. The inflated weekend numbers due to the star power could never hold as a film of this type has never crossed 5 crore nett on Monday and Dear Zindagi needed that and more for a 40% hold.



The film may not appeal to many but the business model has worked in a big way as profits on this are bigger than other successful films with limited appeal like Neerja and Pink. The film will close with recovery of over 75 crore from all revenue sources while hardly any niche films hit 50 crore. Its also likely that it will follow the path of Neerja and Pink on television and emerge a disaster even though Shahrukh Khan is there as these type of films have no life after the 4-5 week theatrical run is over. The collections for the first four days of Dear Zindagi are as follows.

The North India market had hinted that it was not going to get those holds with a 30-40% drop as a multiplex film needs North India to be strong as these markets hold very well after the weekend. Normally these types depend on word of mouth but here the job was done over the weekend. The first week is likely to close around 46-47 crore nett which despite weekdays having ordinary collections is a big number.
