Velaikkaran Music Review

Sivakarthikeyan-Nayantara starrer Velaikkaran has created a decent level of expectations. This film involves lots of highlighting elements from casting to technical crew. We have already come across them in long stretch of stories. But then, Sivakarthikeyan’s lucky mascot Anirudh has been the icing of all his cakes.

An album from the stores of Sivakarthikeyan-Anirudh undoubtedly creates invigorating jubilations among fans. The past record of their collaborations of all their albums topping the charts has been a blunt illustration. They are back with Velaikkaran, which features 5 tracks and let us have a sneak peek into the musical analysis of this album.

Karuthavanlam Galeejaam

Singer: Anirudh & Chorus

Lyrics: Viveka

The first initial moments of the number, especially the prelude gives us a clear idea. This is definitely going to be a ‘Big Mass Hit’. This is a track that doesn’t befittingly look up for musical analysis. Anirudh has been perfectly balancing his works based on class and mass criteria. His previous work in ‘Vivegam’ had so much of efficient scope for critical analysis.

Over here, it’s all about fans and only fans. The percussions on local nativity of Chennai that comes silently combined with bass works are groovy moments. Of course, when there is a Gaana from Anirudh, who else do you think would befittingly perform as a singer than himself? He just gives a flowing vocalism that is sure to get fans addicted.

One cannot imagine about the scenario in theatres, especially with the dance performance of Sivakarthikeyan.

The lines by Viveka are neat and simple that lets us easily by heart and croon along with it in few hearings.

Ezhu Velaikkara

Singers: Siddharth Mahadevan and Chorus

The first thing that instantly appeals to our senses is the vocalization of Siddarth Mahadevan. Being the son of most celebrated Shankar Mahadevan, he carries an identical vocalism. There is something special about this song. A version without instrumentals would offer the exact feeling. Such is the powerful composing of this song that enlivens our experience. There is a particular portion in the interlude, which has rhythmic guitars. It sounds like Anirudh wanted to use them instead of what could be done with percussions for same. It’s a brilliant choice to make sure that there is a difference.

Idhayane

Singers: Neeti Mohan and Anirudh Ravichander

Lyrics: Karky

The slow strings on chords with fortepianos and orchestral coalescing by the interludes that runs without break into the first verse gets a perfect show… This song holds special mention for the earnest reason that it doesn’t bring in more percussions, but a rhythmic accompaniment with orchestral strings is surpassingly exceptional. Neeti Mohan doesn’t need an analysis when it comes to her rendition of melody songs. She carries it off with right pronunciation and Anirudh Ravichander as usual thrusts his magical touch with his magical intonation. Karky engrosses with very simple lines that gets adorned with splendid clarity with mild musical presentation.

Vaa Velaikkara

Singers: Shakthisree Gopalan and Bjorn Surrao

Lyrics: Vivek

This is almost like a signature song that supposedly gets placed during the crucial part of the movie. A power-packed sound mixing and composing that imparts a stunning impact; especially the instrumental portions are prodigious. Shakthisree Gopalan and Bjorn Surrao make the film complete with their highly energetic work. This song would get its escalation to a greater magnitude with visuals.

As on whole, Velaikkaran offers different genres of music in 5 songs that comes stands out to be unparalleled in its own style. Usually, when it’s album from Sivakarthikeyan-Anirudh, they would stick routine paradigms, but with Velaikkaran the duo pushes the bars to a much bigger elevation with newfangled music offering a unique experience for the listeners. While ‘Karuthavanlaam Galeejam’, ‘Iraiva’ and ‘Idhayane’ arrest our senses immediately, the other two tracks sound script oriented that will gain its prominence when viewed on screens.

Iraiva

Singers: Anirudh Ravichander & Jonita Gandhi

Lyrics: Viveka

The song starts off with a much pleasant praising upon God Almighty that suddenly transits into a harsh pathos of a man. It is so much evident with the lyrical lines ‘Ennai Sabithadhum Nee Yallava’. The beats get highly electrified with the guitars and percussions that is followed by a different emotion of ‘Love’ with Jonitha Gandhi taking on the show. The same tunes are repeated for the first and second verses. The dual voices of Jonitha Gandhi are mellisonant with flute serenely accompanying the show. The guitar works are elegantly composed with chords silently travelling with depth of impact throughout the song. Anirudh has attempted an International spell with ‘Iraiva’, which definitely needs an ‘English’ version that will add double mileage to the film.

'I WILL NOT ACT IN...', SIVAKARTHIKEYAN'S BREAKING STATEMENT

Sivakarthikeyan's speech at Velaikkaran audio launch was one of the major highlights of the event, where he made a breaking statement that he will no more act in advertisements. Sivakarthikeyan stated, "For the first time in my career, I went to a director and asked for an opportunity and said we would do a film together. It was due to the impact that Thani Oruvan gave me. Everyone seems to make fun of Raja sir for doing remakes, but not many know that remakes are the biggest challenge. No one knows the toughness. I rejected nearly 10 remake film offers that I got, only due to the fact that I know I can't do justice to the original version.

Velaikkaran is the gem of Raja sir, and the whole team has worked, believing him and his content. If my character or performance gets any appreciation, the whole credit goes to Raja sir. Fahadh Fasil is an International actor, and I can openly, with no fear, say this anywhere. Having him on my opposite side, it gave me a boost to perform more effectively. We both have become good friends now, and I am learning a lot from his acting. It will be a very special role and a special film for him.

It is a happy moment to act with Nayanthara. I first saw her at the shooting spot of Aegan. Myself and Arunraja were supposed to come in brief roles in the film, and at that time, we saw her. Then, it was Ethir Neechal, where she made an appearance for a song. After that, only at the shooting spot of Velaikkaran, I saw her. The one thing that hasn't changed at all in all these three film shooting spots, is her punctuality and perfection. That is why, I feel, that she has established a market for herself.

I have seen a few memes on Twitter saying that, 'If there's no Anirudh, there is no Sivakarthikeyan'. There is nothing more happier than reading those. I feel great that Ani has supported me so much with his music, and shares a huge credit for my growth. Out of my 11 films, 5 of them have music by Anirudh, and half of my career has his share. Editor Mohan sir saw the film recently and appreciated me. I felt so happy and I hope that the audience also have the same reaction.

Through this experience of acting in Velaikkaran, I have decided, not to act in advertisements any more. Not just that I am against it, but I do not want to convey a wrong message to people. I do not want a kid or a woman or a family to be misguided due to my words in the ad. I am responsible for what I am doing. So, I will not act in ads anymore. I have done one ad before, agreed, but, counting from this day, I will not do any ads.

I can entertain the audience with 9 films, but one film, I'd want to do something challenging like Velaikkaran. It has given me a hope. The film has changed me a lot, as a person, and it will also continue to do so in the coming days.

I would like to personally thank Vijay Vasanth for giving the title Velaikkaran. Actually, he had bought the title for his next film as hero, from Kavithalaya Productions. But when, we went and asked, they immediately understood and gave us the title. A big thanks to him, for giving the title, without any hesitation."

NO ONE CAN BASH VELAIKKARAN: MOHAN RAJA'S FULL SPEECH

Captain of the ship, Mohan Raja made a bold hard-hitting speech at the Velaikkaran audio launch, stating that the film will convey a strong social message to the society.

He said, "No one can bash or troll the film. The title is Velaikkaran. It is about all the workers around us, and the film will be a dedication to all of them. So, there will be no thought for the audience to bash the film. I feel I have won there itself. It is easy to live so lazily, and spending time without doing anything. But, it is tough to work hard, without depending on anyone for money.

Anirudh is the crowd puller, and after seeing the response for Karuthvanlaam Galeejam, I am sure 50% of the extra audience will come solely for Anirudh's music and songs. He has given more than what I expected. Velaikkaran is a public's film. Whatever, a common man wanted to ask, has been asked in the film, and I am sure that all of them will be able to relate well. I've asked more questions in Velaikkaran, than Thani Oruvan.

The youth generation has given me great confidence, and only with their confidence, I believed and made Thani Oruvan. After seeing the unity among them in issues like Jallikattu and Chennai Floods, the confidence has grown much more bigger, and it has given me the spirit to do Velaikkaran. 24 AM is the best gift for me, and no director can be more happier than me.

Who said cinema people should not come to politics? I'd say no one else more than a cinema person, can make it big in politics, with responsibility. There are so many people out there, trying their best to make people aware about the current happenings and bring a change. They are using cinema as a medium. All of them are talking about entertainment all the time. I'd say cinema is not just an entertainment. There is something more than that, and I want to bring about a change, or make an impact through a film. It should convey something.

I have the responsibility to do good cinema, more than a time pass entertainer. I feel so proud of being a cinema person. People from cinema can come to politics, and make a change. No one else other than Siva could have done better justice to Arivu character in the film. Arivu will be a remembering character in Tamil cinema's history and Sivakarthikeyan would be the reason for that."

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT VELAIKKARAN!

The grand audio launch event of Sivakarthikeyan's Velaikkaran is currently happening at Chennai, with the entire cast and crew of the film gracing the event.

The makers have now officially made a big announced stating that the motion poster of the film will be launched very soon. The motion poster was already screened at the event, and we can expect the YouTube version of the same to be out soon.

Comedian Sathish, in his speech at the audio launch of Velaikkaran said that the film will be on the lines of Ghilli and Veeram, dedicating to a specific class of people.

He said, "When football and cricket were at its peak, unexpectedly came Ghilli, which was a dedication to all the Ghilli players. Likewise, Ajith sir showed that it is gethu, to feature in salt n pepper look, in Veeram. Same way, Velaikkaran will give a gethu feeling to all the hard working people around us. It is a proud moment to be with Sivakarthikeyan. I would like to bring a Bigg Boss reference now, and like Kattipidi Snehan, I want to hug Sivakarthikeyan." As said, Sathish invited Sivakarthikeyan to the stage, and hugged him, expressing his gratitude.
