The recently released Iraiva song Velaikkaran has already gone viral, thanks to the addictive beats and vocals by Anirudh Ravichander and Jonita Gandhi. Talking about the song, Jonita says, "I was travelling for a few private events when I got a call from Anirudh's team about this song they wanted to record. I was in Bangalore, so it was easy to come to Chennai. Initially, I didn't understand the lyrics, but I realised the song has very varied emotions. I could tell from the expression, the melody and arrangement that this will be one exciting track."




This is the first time the Indo-Canadian singer has worked with Anirudh. She says that the experience was wonderful. "Like a lot of people, I came to know about Anirudh after Kolaveri Di. Since I have worked with Rahman sir and know the music circle in the south, I keep hearing about him and his work. But this is the first time I got to work with him. I must say that he is hands-on with everything, juggling so many things in the studio. The song begins as a melody and suddenly becomes heavy on metal. When I suddenly saw Anirudh growl, I was puzzled. I have known so much about him as a composer, but this is the first time I saw him sing and I was like, 'Woah, this guy is awesome!' I loved the way he emoted the feelings. He gave an international feel to the song. Since I am not fluent in Tamil, I didn't understand a lot of things. I kept asking a lot of questions so that I could deliver the emotions well. He explained everything patiently," shares the singer.




Talking about the visuals of the song, Jonita said it all happened in a day's time. She says, "I was unwell during the recording and was not sure if I could sing perfectly. But it all worked well. A lot of the portions is in slow motion. When you shoot those portions, you have to sing in double speed for the lip sync to be perfect. I had just memorised the song, so I was a little worried that I would be fumbling. But the director, producer and Anirudh were all very helpful. Eventually, it turned out to be great."
