Saw 4 movies in the last few days Whiplash(2014) Intense story of a drummer who wants be the best in the world and a teacher who pushes him way past his breaking point.J K Simmons is fantastic in his Oscar winning role.Good music too and lots of drumming.I do have some problems with glorifying mental abuse but this is a very good movie overall. Re Born(2016) A Japanese action film that has probably the most number of slit throats in a movie. The action is very good.Mostly hand to hand stuff with knves.Things other than the action scenes are very dull.If you can sit through some boring initial moments this is a gory action packed treat.Recommended for genre fans. Marshall(2017) Supposedly based on a true story .Chadwick bossman plays the title character who is a lawyer defending wrongly accused black people.A black servant is accused of raping and trying to murder a rich white lady.Marshall joins forces with a reluctant insurance lawyer to defend him.Pretty good movie. You can pretty much guess where the story is going but it is interesting nevertheless. Worth a watch The Piper(2015) A Korean movie set just after the Korean war.It is a twisted retelling of the pied piper folk tale. A crippled piper and his sick son stumble upon a secluded village on their way to Seoul. They stay a night there. As a sign of his gratitude the man agrees to get rid of the rats which are tormenting the villagers. But there is something sinister going on too. This had a good premise but the movie was not that good. Not worth seeking out but if you have it not much harm in watching
Run Lola Run (German) An outlandish narrative which presents three versions of a twenty minute episode, Run Lola Run is an absolutely riveting film.In a compact ninety minutes, consolidating bizzare characters, dynamic soundtrack, nicks of animation, and a pace which is downright seamless, this 1998 German thriller is a worthwhile experience.
Sword Master (2016) This is a remake of an old movie titled Death Duel. This one is directed by the guy who played the lead in the original. A villainous swordfigter wants to be the best in the kingdom. He has defeated everyone except The Third Swordmaster. The swordmadter's former fiancé hires him to kill him.But the Swordmaster dies before he could find him.Meanwhile a vagrant shows up at a brothel in the town as a helper.... The premise is pretty great actually. The characters are complex and interesting especially the 'antagonist' swordsman. The CGI and fight choreography sometimes becomes a little too much cartoonish. Also the last 20 something minutes felt a bit messy. If you generally enjoy swordplay/martial arts movies this is will be a good option. The movie could have been better but still it is pretty decent
Mile 22 Chaotic and convoluted, still, the action was pretty decent - Avg ! Alpha Quite decent in regards to the spellbinding visual spectacle that it is, nonetheless, the dearth of an exciting premise holds it back from being a memorable experience.
Slightly better than I remembered it to be .But don't think too much about it.
First Man A poignant and mastered human odyssey, and it's a lot more than just a habitual bipoic. First Man is Stellar ! Whiplash, La La Land, First Man - Damien Chazelle
Fantastic Beasts : The Crimes of Grindelwald Keeping apart the fact that it's a bit convoluted, the sequel to Fantastic Beasts is a delightfully entertaining cinematic experience ❤
