For all the hardcore fans of Mammukka, who get delighted on seeing him in action, Shylock could be no less than a treat. The film falls in the same league of hero worshipping commerical potboiler, nonetheless, Ajay Vasudev's impressive packaging of a seemingly routine revenge drama makes Shylock an enjoyable entertainer.

Shylock is not a movie that demands the full range of Mammukka, but it's a movie that has managed to capture certain things he only can do. He is at his energetic best, the impeccable swagger and vigor make it an absolutely exciting act and the film works largely because of this man.

Being downright honest, Shylock is Ajay's finest work. It's not the kind of film that's going to be remembered for it's cinematic or aesthetic quality, nonetheless, in a time when Malayalam cinema is crowded with realistic/slice of life films, it's good to see a pleasing mass masala that actually entertains.

Right when the opening credits start and you hear that morbidly haunting background music, you know that this isn't going to be your usual murder mystery. A riveting storyline, complete with artistically done flashback to build the narrative, and enough surprises along the way, Anjam Pathira is the kind of work that makes us think constantly with strong subliminal messages and moments of crucial transformation.

Every single performance in the film is nothing short of captivating, nonetheless, Kunchako Boban in particular delivers one of his finest act, Anwar Hussain is delightfully subtle. The characters come across as a lot more grounded, adding that essential element of reason and realism so as to not paint them as caricatures.

With a solid technical team backing him up, Midhun's first attempt at the thriller genre is an absolute winner. The dark, brooding and slick frames, crisp editing and compelling sound design add scale and intrigue to this engrossing thriller. In a nutshell, Anjam Pathira is the finest thriller to come out in recent times, it's definitely worth the hype.
