    COIMBATORE: A judicial magistrate's court in Mettupalayam in Coimbatore district has issued summons to actor Simbu and music composer Anirudh to appear in person on January 8.

    The summons have been issued based on a petition from a social organisation, even as the Coimbatore police have summoned the two to Race Course police station on January 2 and the Chennai police have alerted airports to prevent them from flying abroad.

    The petition was filed by advocate K P Rahman, representing Namma Mettupalayam, a social welfare organization, on Wednesday. The petition said that the controversial beep song was a new blot on the film industry that had denigrated women. The offensive song warrants action under four counts of IPC - Sec 292 (sale of obscene material), 293 (sale, distribution or circulation of obscene material to anyone below 21 years of age), 294b (obscene singing, recitation or utterance in public place) and 509 (damaging modesty of women though word, gesture or act), the petitioner said.
