Versatile hero Suriya had last played a con man with a heart of gold in the Vignesh Shivn directorial movie Thaanaa Serndha Koottam. This year, the actor is having his hands full, as he has NGK and Kaappaan, both promising entertainer movies, at various stages of filming and offer a treat for his fans.

On the other hand, the latest speculations in the industry state that, Suriya has been approached by none other than director turned actor Sasikumar with a historical big-budget script, and that he might well convince the hero. Besides, it has been said that this was the script that earlier Sasikumar had planned with Vijay.

Currently, Sasikumar is awaiting the release of Petta where he plays Maalik, Superstar Rajnikanth's friend, and Kombu Vatcha Singamda by SR Prabhakaran, costarring Madonna Sebastian, and Suriya, after Selvaraghavan's NGK and KV Anand's Kaappaan has a movie each with Sudha Kongara and Hari. It is expected that this combo might happen after all these movies.

Filmmaker and actor Sasikumar is reportedly gearing up to direct a historical and is on the verge of finalizing its hero. Sources in the know say that Sasikumar had initially approached Vijay to play the lead role in this period flick but the star had refused due to reasons best known only to him.

Following this, Sasikumar had narrated the story to Suriya and he is said to have given his go ahead. The star is completely enamored with the strong storyline and has agreed to work with Sasi Kumar. More details about this project are expected to be announced officially soon.

Sasikumar’s debut as director was with Subramaniapuram, which was a super hit. He then directed Eesan in 2010. After the release of Eesan, he has been busy with the acting assignments that he did not wield the megaphone since. This film will be his comeback as a director.

Meanwhile, Suriya is busy with the Selvaraghavan directorial NGK. The film stars Rakul Preet Singh and Sai Pallavi as heroines and has Meera, Jagapathi Babu and Bala Singh playing the supporting roles. Yuvan Shankar Raja is composing the tunes for the film and Siva Kumar Vijayan is cranking the camera with Praveen KL in charge of the editing.

It may be noted here that the first look poster of NGK (Nandha Gopalan Kumaran) raked up the curiosity levels of the film buffs and the second poster has upped it even higher. A political drama that is being directed by Selvaraghavan, the film is being bankrolled by SR Prakashbabu and SR Prabhu under the banner Dream Warrior Pictures.

Suriya also has the KV Anand directorial in the pipeline for release this year.

His film with Sasikumar should be going on to the floors after his current assignments are through.

Suriya is likely to star in Sasikumar’s movie. Reports suggest that the actor has been approached by the Subramaniapuram director for a historical project.

The movie was originally planned with Vijay in the lead but has now been offered to Suriya. It will be a while before Suriya’s project with Sasikumar takes off, as reports say the actor has upcoming projects with Sudha Kongara and Hari.

Talks about Sudha Kongra’s movie, Suriya’s 38th, emerged in as early as February last year. Lyricist Vivek had tweeted about the same. It was also reported that GV Prakash would be the music composer on the project.

Director Hari announced his sixth project with Suriya. According to India Today, it will not be the fourth instalment in their successful Singam series. “I already have an idea to make the film as a family entertainer with some action. I will commence my work on the new project post the release of Saamy Square.”

The actor has two releases this year – NGK with Selvaraghavan and Kaappaan with KV Anand.

Recently, the makers of NGK had announced that the shooting had been wrapped up. Pitched as a political thriller, NGK or Nandha Gopalan Kumaran will see Suriya playing the titular character. It is produced by S. R. Prabhu under the banner Dream Warrior Pictures, and stars Sai Pallavi and Rakul Preet Singh. Bala Singh, Mansoor Ali Khan, Murali Sharma, Sampath Raj, Sarath Kumar and Jagapathi Babu play pivotal roles.

NGK was earlier scheduled to release on Diwali, but in August last year, the film’s production house announced that there would be a delay.

Meanwhile, Kaappaan marks the third collaboration between Suriya and KV Anand after Ayan and Maatran. It also stars Mohanlal, Arya, Sayyeshaa Saigal, Boman Irani, and Samuthirakani in pivotal roles. Harris Jayaraj is the composer, Abhinandan Ramanujam is the cinematographer, and editing is by Anthony.

Chirag Jani plays Suriya’s friend in the film. His role was reportedly first offered to Allu Sirish, who had to turn down the offer because the schedule clashed with his other film ABCD.

 

Despite his numerous acting commitments, including the latest big one in superstar Rajinikanth’s Petta, Sasikumar has always been working on his scripts that he will ultimately be directing someday. The actor had recently shared all his ideas with his close friend Samuthrakani, who had helped him with the map hereon. According to the latest sources in Kollywood, Sasikumar has pitched his period action drama to Suriya.



Earlier, the director had narrated the same storyline to Thalapathy Vijay, who had decided not to work on the project as it was not in his comfort zone. With Suriya now hearing the script and showing positive signs, it looks like the project will finally take up shape sometime this year. Sasikumar, who is currently busy with a couple of acting outings, is expected to finish them off before he dons the directorial hat.
